Interested in Aerobatics ( F3A ) ?

Postby mark webster » Thu Sep 18, 2008 3:12 pm

Fellow club members,

I have been in communication with a couple of the Guy's who help run the GBR/CAA as I was trying to find more local comps / events to go and see. I also mentioned that the GBR/CAA had been approached some time ago by someone in our club to see if they would do a demo day for us. Unfortunately this appeared to of got overlooked for which they were very apologetic for.

But....... They have offered to do a Npod ( new pilots open day ) at our field. We would have the expert tuition of one or more of their top fliers for the day. The day would go something like this:

General talk on the GBR/CAA and aerobatics etc
Demo flights to show us what the schedules consist of
You will get to fly the clubman and/or intermediate schedule with coaching
Help / suggestions will be given on how to make things more precise and flow from maneuver to maneuver and then get to fly a few more times to see how you’ve improved.

The day would be very relaxed and informal, please remember it’s not a competition! It’s a good way of getting club members interested in aerobatics, help improve their flying and hopefully some of you may want to look at going to the odd competition here and there.

Type of plane....... Any good sports / aerobatic model can be used regardless of size. Providing it’s got a fairly sensible power to weight ration ( as in, it can fly a decent size and round loop ) it will be more than good enough to fly the above mentioned schedules. Smaller models will struggle in windier conditions, but don’t be put off if it is windy as our mentors for the day will take weather conditions into account.

What I need to know...... I need to get an idea of how many of you would be interested in attending the Npod with the view of actually flying and having a go. The number of pilots participating will have an effect of how many mentors that may be required for the day. Club members who are not up for the flying might be interested in helping those of you who are flying as you can assist with calling maneuvers for practice flights etc. This is still a good way to learn as you can then practice in secret!

Mid October has been suggested, date tbc

To learn more, take a look at the GBR/CAA website: http://www.gbrcaa.org

If you are interested, please email on maw759@btinternet.com

Thanks for reading this,

Mark Webster.

Mark,

Not sure if you got my email, but I'm very interested in attending a session like this.

Looking forward to it.

Hi Guy's,

Just a quick note to thank all of those who have responded to my post.

I am now back in email communication with the GBR /CAA and one of their pilots who has volunteered himself to give them an idea of numbers etc.

It has been brought to my attention that there may be cost's involved! I have now asked the question and am waiting for a response. If there are costs involved, I will let all interested parties know. Obviously this may put a stop to holding this day as it is not really a club event and the monies would have to come from somewhere - lets hope that this is not the case.

As and when I receive news, I will add this info to this post.

Thanks,

Mark.

Hi Chap's,

Okay, just to confirm that the 'Npod' F3A day is going ahead on Saturday the 18th of October - weather permitting.

If your participating in the flying side of things, please can you aim to be at the field for 9.30am ish. The day should kick off around 10am.

We will definately have 2 experianced F3A pilots as our mentors for the day, maybe 3.

Just to re cap.....

You need:

To be a BMAC member or invited as a guest for the day
Bring along a model that has a max noise output of 82db as per the BMAC's club rules / BMFA guidelines.
A fairly capable aerobatic model - IC or electric
An 'A' cert to fly

If you need to ask me anything, either email me at maw759@btinternet.com or call me on 07919 215945

It should be a good day and each of us will hopefully learn something new to further improve our flying skills.

See you all Saturday.

R's,

Mark.
